Description
The Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, saw several American divisions playing a crucial role across different beaches. The 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were dropped behind enemy lines to secure strategic points before the main assault. At Pointe du Hoc, the Rangers undertook a daring mission to neutralize German guns threatening the beaches. At Utah Beach, the 4th Infantry Division landed with the specific goal of securing the area and advancing quickly inland. On Omaha Beach, the 1st Infantry Division faced fierce resistance and had to overcome heavy losses to establish a foothold. The 29th Infantry Division, also at Omaha, participated in this intense fight, contributing to the eventual capture of the beach after a brutal struggle. Each division played a key role in the overall success of Operation Overlord, marked by extraordinary courage and sacrifice.
